MAIN THEME: Education

The Let's SHORTen This Story? initiative urges students to revisit and produce the narratives of their favorite movies, series, and games, rewriting new story endings.

GOALS

Stimulating students' interest in the classroom by encouraging them to write and produce their own stories and thus be able to create short films based on subjects of interest.

DESCRIPTION

A common complaint among Erem Frei Orlando school teachers was the students' lack of motivation and disinterest in reading and writing in the classroom, reflected in poor grades and dropout. It was then that a teacher raised the question: "Why were the heroes of these young people not part of the school's literary debate on the same scale as they occupied the imagination of young people outside of it?" Thus came the initiative Let's SHORTen This Story? with the aim of enticing students to revisit and produce the narratives of films, series and games they like most in short films.

In this process, in addition to much reading, research, writing of original scripts, involving all disciplines and the academic community, there was also a field visit to a closer cinema - since until then the community was devoid of one. Among the results, the city even won the screening of films produced by students in public square for the leisure of the whole community.

RESULTS ACHIEVED

The initiative resulted in more cheerful students with more self-esteem who regularly attend classes, engage and are eager to read, to produce even their own book of more than 20 short stories, including short film scripts and the possibility to continue producing other stories.
