SUMMARY
An idea that protects water resources and ensures environmental education for the community. This is Planting Waters, by The Green Initiative, an initiative that has been developing in rural São Paulo.
GOALS
Conserving water resources based on the environmental adequacy of rural properties, in addition to complying with environmental legislation in a broad and participatory manner. Integrating environmental, social and economic dimensions and encouraging sustainable agriculture such as agroforestry systems.
DESCRIPTION
Based on the data that about 60% of the houses deposited waste in rudimentary pits - which consequently polluted the watercourse, the proposal Planting Waters was born.
Technicians identify places where poor sanitation has impacted water quality and caused degradation of soil and riparian forests. Soon after, in conversation with farmers' families and communities, an action plan is elaborated. With low-cost technology, the process of restoration of affected areas is started, ecologically correct pits are installed, as well as extensive education work for sustainable development in rural areas.
RESULTS ACHIEVED
In all, 438 families received at least one technology unit, directly reaching 1,740 people.
