MAIN THEME: Income

Clog is a social technology in the area of Information Technology (IT) that selects and qualifies public school students to learn advanced programming and act as basic programming instructors for other students. They are encouraged to organize collective endeavors, to explore IT business opportunities in order to ensure sustainability.

GOALS

Promoting creative and digital entrepreneurship in IT in extremely poor communities and those far from major centers.

DESCRIPTION

Santa Luzia do Itanhy (SE) is a region with about 13,000 inhabitants, where most of them live in rural areas or riverside communities. More than 50% of families are dependent on Bolsa Familia (family allowance). It is in this scenario that a transformative action takes place.

Since 2013, young people from Itanhy have come into contact with programming and creative and digital entrepreneurship. Called Clog, the initiative initially selected about 300 teenagers to take Logical Thinking classes and Scratch - programming teaching technology developed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Four students started reapplying the knowledge acquired in the region's public schools, resulting in a new horizon for them, who see new professional and income generation possibilities, directly impacting the future of each one and their families.

RESULTS ACHIEVED

The initiative has already resulted in partnerships with Microsoft, which has trained basic computer instructors, as well as jobs generated in Information Technology in other states. In all, more than 800 young people have benefited. The expectation now is the opening of the company itself, believing in the potential that young people have to become entrepreneurs.
